Real Frogs is a band-type entity that consists of one person, and that person is me, John Paul Foster.
I’ve been writing and recording pop songs that have become gradually less embarrassing since about 1997, in the halcyon days of Middle School.
When I was about 17 I knew that writing and recording songs was all I wanted to do as far as a career goes, but I went on to college anyway, where I co-founded the band NINFANT with Adam Murphree. We released one album on our own label and never promoted it, then recorded one and a half more albums that are unfinished to this day.
After graduating, I moved back home to Montevallo, AL where I began a long period of heavy drinking and self-pity, lost in a post-graduate haze of foodservice jobs and dissatisfaction. I wanted to do music and just music, but instead I was finding it hard to find any kind of inspiration. Plus I had no band and no means of getting attention to my recordings, so I just kind of shrugged and kept drinking.
Then one day, things changed. I shook myself off and decided, “Hey, how’s about I start a website, and I use that as a means of publishing music, so I can unleash my prolific songwriting fury upon the earth?” I figured I could charge a tiny subscription fee and dodge the record labels so that I’m allowed to put out four albums a year, if that’s what I feel like doing.
If I have paid members, I MUST work, and when I feel a mandate to write music, I do it, and I do it fast. The more members, the more music, and the higher quality the recordings will be, since I will be able to replace my stolen recording equipment.
So if anything on this website tickles yr fancy whatsoever, JOIN. I promise that if you like what I’m doing, that’ll be a well-spent five dollars. You will be showered with a bounty of mp3s.
